Narissa Allibhai
Founder/Teacher
Meditator and Musician
A dedicated meditator, Nada Yogini and musician, the founder of Sound Healing Africa is a visionary of Indian heritage born in Kenya. Narissa is one of the most experienced and respected sound healing practitioners and teachers in the region, due to her commitment to ethics and authenticity of practice.
Practitioner & Teacher
Narissa's teachings combine ancient wisdom with the latest scientific research, as well as her finely tuned musical ear and theoretical background. She is herself a recording and performing musician specialising in the Indian bamboo flute (bansuri) and vocals. Her practices and teachings incorporate various spiritual traditions including Buddhism, shamanism, esoteric Islam, Hinduism, and various medicine traditions.
When pursuing a particular practice, Narissa always undertakes a pilgrimage to the land where the tradition was originally from, and finds the most authentic teachers no matter how long it takes. This has been the case with all that she shares with the world.
Her moment-to-moment existence is fragranced with love of nature, of awareness, of healing sound and of silence.
Initiation
Her first initiation into sound healing took place in February 2018 after losing her best friend to cancer, and undergoing a transcendental sound healing experience. After a long painstaking search across three countries and several courses she was lucky to finally find an authentic guru to study under.
For the rest of that year she traveled across Asia and East Africa healing her grief, undertaking spiritual studies, and holding free community sessions to consecrate her practice with respect, before making it her full-time work since 2019.
Patience
She could have started teaching years ago, but felt that is was only respectful to the tradition to wait. It took years - only once she felt intimately connected with her bowls, deeply integrated into the practice, to the point where she was herself creating and innovating, and feeling the need for more troops in the sound healing army, was she ready to head back to Nepal for teacher-training.
Community Building
Community building is in Narissa's DNA - whether environmental, political, justice, or spiritual. A quite recent baby is Conscious Kenya, a community for healing and awakening.
Now with Sound Healing Africa, we will build networks of conscious and traditional music and sound across the continent.
Narissa also holds retreats focused on mindfulness, sound healing, awareness, nature, plant medicine, etc. She is a teacher of sound healing, meditation, mindfulness, pranayama breathing, mantra and hatha yoga.
