About
Immerse yourself in the rhythms, histories, and healing power of Indigenous Afrikan drumming through structured classes guided by our practitioner, Mbutch. These drum classes are rooted in cultural knowledge, sound healing, and ethnomusicology, offering a deep and respectful learning experience. Each course consists of 10 classes completed within 6 weeks, allowing students to focus deeply on one instrument at a time. Classes are available for the following Indigenous Afrikan instruments costing USD 234 per class: Nyiduonge Drum (Luo Tribe – Kenya) Djembe (West Africa) Kayamba Soft Percussive Instruments : Shakers/ Ndonga / Mayanga / Gicande / Lungo Students may also choose to study the Segenya Drums, a special coastal genre comprising seven traditional drum instruments: Chapuo, Nichirima, Dahedahe, Upatsu, Ukaya, Chivoti and Zumari. Each with its own rhythm, role and cultural significance. Participants may choose one instrument per 10-class cycle, allowing for focused mastery and embodied understanding. All students begin with a first consultation class, where Mbutch introduces the instruments, their cultural contexts, and playing styles, and helps guide you toward the instrument best aligned with your musical path. This consultative approach is especially valuable for university students and practitioners of music ethnocology, where learning can unfold over years of dedicated study.
